American Democracy Has Met Its Match.
But Brad Tilsdale Won’t Let It Go Down without a Fight.
Brad Tilsdale, one of the FBI’s top counterintelligence agents, is on a mission ferret out a Russian mole he knows is lurking within the Bureau’s ranks. Meanwhile, Russia’s KGB and China’s MSS have bigger plans. They’re joining forces to infiltrate higher levels of the U.S. government with programmed sleeper agents—and not even the White House is above their ambitions. And their plan has a name The Trojan Horse Project.
What follows is the gripping story of shadowy plots intersecting with the dogged persistence of a career lawman. As the various forces of the Trojan Horse Conspiracy spring into action, Tilsdale and his team nearly derail the world’s most infamous terrorist attack, despite the government’s blunders. International crises come to a head as North Korea and China sit on the edge of nuclear war with the United States. These seemingly disparate world events find a common thread, presenting a puzzle that Tilsdale must unravel if he’s to safeguard a nation’s security and freedom. His mission leads him into the domain of America’s political elite—and what he finds may push the nation into chaos.
With a story woven around some familiar public figures, The Trojan Horse Conspiracy asks unsettling questions Who is actually controlling our government, and how do we protect ourselves from evildoers? What nefarious forces are behind Washington’s power set? In reality, we will always owe our freedom not to our presidents, but to the brave men and women willing to sacrifice their lives for an ideal of democracy and freedom. A page-turning political thriller, Dick Nelson’s novel will leave you with a clear-eyed view of the fragility of our political system—and the importance of defending it against all odds.

Like the roller coaster climbing to the top of the first downhill, this novel starts by getting the reader prepared and wondering where the story will go. It's not a long wait. And, as the story continues to gain speed the reader is educated, enlightened and taken for a ride with several unexpected twists and turns.Employing fiction as the thread, Nelson stitches together facts, probabilities and imagination into a compelling novel on politics, national security and the shadowy world of intelligence. To anyone with a "political pulse" the insinuations and possibilities are clear, America is in trouble and it is not all due to the random and fickle hand of fate.
A solid and sobering `read' as the election season unfolds before us. The daily barrage of misdirection and red herrings in the national media to distract voters from the obvious political inertia and real issues is intentional - and ignored at our peril.

"The Trojan Horse Conspiracy" by Dick Nelson
This book was hard to put down from the get-go. Nelson introduces the central character, Brad Tisdale, in a preface that establishes Tisdale's bona fides and credibility. This takes the reader into the first chapter with an understanding of Tisdale that doesn't require cluttering the story line with flashbacks and explanations. From chapter one, the book moves rapidly, capturing the reader in a series of scenes that reveal the story and yet niggle the reader's conscience by reminders of real events in the real world that are mirrored in the book. From my experience, I like to use a risk management perspective, of 'what is the event in question, 'what is the likelihood of that event,' and given the two, 'can I decide to live with the outcome?' Nelson traces out a plausible series of events that are paralleled in our modern history, shows us the events and likely outcomes, and paints a picture of the probable demise of the great American Experiment. Without revealing the outcome, I can say that he captures the inner workings and hidden mechanisms of the world players and their plottings. His research reveals outstanding operational and technical insights about the various agencies, agents and methods. A most excellent read, and most strongly recommended as a political thriller with a strong message.
It is rare to read a military-technical thriller that combines strong characterization, a fluid prose style, and themes taken directly from recent newspaper headlines. Dick Nelson has managed this trifecta with his THE TROJAN HORSE CONSPIRACY. The plot, of course, is a reference to the ancient tale of how the Greeks managed to hide soldiers within a wooden horse to capture the armed fortress that was Troy. Nelson has updated this simple plot device in ways that spin out plot complications that carry the reader through some surprising twists. The book is roughly divided into two sections the first details the birth, growth, education, and political career of the first African-American president of the United States. In this novel, he is called Sam Basi. Without giving too much of the plot away, Nelson presents Basi as an Obama-type president, who is constantly running the White House and possessing a political philosophy that is clearly meant to refer to the current POTUS. The second half shifts focus as the United States must somehow counter a new and insidious coalition between Russia and China. As one might expect, this shift necessarily alters the dramatic dynamics from political philosophizing to slam-bang action. What I found chilling was Nelson's penchant for having his characters actually talk to one another while outlining their political and economic goals. In one particularly relevant scene, Nelson actually presents what is nothing less than an executive summary of how a dupe in the White House could topple the United States in its entirety without the need to fire a single shot. THE TROJAN HORSE CONSPIRACY makes no pretense to be other than an old-fashioned paean to passé patriotism. For readers who are aware of and unhappy with the current state of political and economic affairs of this country and wish to partake of a thoroughly enjoyable action novel, Dick Nelson's book is a fine place to begin.
Realistic fiction in a sad way, but real in many, many, ways. So called investigative reporters should be a must read.
Easy and exciting read especially for those who enjoy a blend of politics, military and clandestine operations in a real-world context that leaves the reader regularly attempting to ascertain where reality ends and fiction takes over.
This is a fast-paced adventure that kept me up at night. Nelson was full of surprises as Brad Tilsdale, agent extraordinaire, goes after nefarious individuals bent of the destruction of the U.S. If you like Brad Thor or Stephen Coonts then you will love this gripping thriller by Dick Nelson.
