The heartbreaker is back in town. Dr. Sam Kirk broke Lucki Stevenson's heart in high school. Years later, he's moved back into his childhood home--the house next door to Lucki. Will he leave her heartbroken again? Or can the good doctor mend her broken heart of the past?
Lucki Stevenson spends most of her time coaching unruly teenagers and avoiding the unwelcome advances of a co-worker in her Harbor Falls Parks and Recreation job. So when all-grown-up, boy-next-door, Dr. Sam Kirk moves back into his childhood home, she doesn't hesitate to welcome him back into town and her life--as her childhood best friend, of course. Because that's all she and Sam will ever be--best friends.
She gave her heart to Sam once. She won't give him a second chance to break it.
Returning home to raise his younger brother after their mother's death, Sam feels fortunate that Lucki still lives next door, and is even happier that the tomboy he remembers is now a beautiful woman. Although reluctant to accept Lucki's expert advice about kids, thinking he knows what's best for his brother, Sam finally takes some advice from Lucki about how to handle the moody teenager. Convinced he's now on the road to success as a parent, Sam wonders if he can find similar success as Lucki's potential boyfriend.
Can Sam convince Lucki he is not the heartbreaker of her past? Can he mend her high school broken heart and risk a second chance at a future together? Perhaps, but Lucki is not easily swayed. That's when Sam gets the whole of Harbor Falls in on the act.

This is another romance where the two people have known each other their whole lives and finally get together in their late twenties. Normally, it is the girl who has had a crush on a non-suspecting male best friend or a not interested best friend while in high school. If you have read Tangled Web ,Unleashed,Trust in Advertising or Always Been Mine (The Moreno Brothers 2) , you will find the same type of story here.Lucki has been next door neighbors with Sam since elementary school. He was incredibly good looking and dated a different girl weekly. He was known as "the heartbreaker" because he would never settle on one. After leaving for college and a subsequent career as a doctor in a large city, he comes home to take care of his teenage brother and notices that Lucki is all grown up. Lucki is still hopelessly attracted to him and tries to convince herself that he will only hurt her if she opens herself up to his attentions. You can guess where this goes from here.
Maddie James is a good writer and does not bore us with repeated worries of the main character's doubts or guide us through frustrating misunderstandings. When Lucki tries to lie to Sam about her feelings, he just keeps pursuing her and refusing to believe her protests. Most times, the author has the guy believe the girl's denial of her love for him and makes us go through pages of doubts and frustration. Not in this one, which is refreshing.
I enjoyed reading this story and would recommend it to others looking for a sweet romance. The only thing I would change is the cover. After reading the story, it really just does not seem "right".

I love the Easy rider car harness because it is much easier to get on my dog, it also is such a great help in riding in the car, but I use it all the time when I take Prince out of a walk. I get a lot of people asking me where I got it. This is the
3rd harness I purchased, and my dog is only 5 months old. If I ever need another, I will buy another one. Thanks so much... Annette
Young love gets a second chance when Sam returns to his roots and who does he find next door but a girl from his youth. She is all grown up and works with teens daily. Her knowledge and experience ends up helping Sam to understand J.J. his younger brother and his needs. Sam sees Lucki in a new way and realizes what he left behind years ago. This book was a great read and without the obvious turns and twists. Maddie James is a great Author and has many Great Reads.
Sam, "The Heartbreaker," used to make all of the girls in high school go goo-goo-gaa-gaa all over him. EVERY single one, he dumped. He took his good looks for granted, he thought it was all just a fun game! Lucki was one of his late victims. Lucki thought it really was true love at first sight, but of course, Sam dumped her, and she was heartbroken. Sam moved out of the small town to go to the big city and open up a medical practice, but he always missed the quiet atmosphere of his hometown. Later in his life, he moves back to his hometown, and finds Lucki as his next-door neighbor. The air starts charging with tension (in a good way), the electricity starts crackling (in a good way), and what happens next? Read "The Heartbreaker," by Maddie James, to find out! A SUPERB read to pass the time!
In "The Heartbreaker" Lucki is the girl next door, a girl Sam never really had feelings for beyond best friends. When he is thrown back into town due to unfortunate circumstances, Sam will begin to see Lucki in a new light. The first scene made me hover between laughing and feeling embarrassed for Lucki.
At the base, this is a 'boy realizes girl next door was the one for him the whole time'. Between the small town mosey atmosphere, the antics of a little brother and a rival for Sam, this story brings the little town of Freedom, TN to life in a fun way.
The only drawbacks to the story lie in the complete lack of self confidence shown by Lucki. She automatically draws the worst impression from everything to an extreme. But who hasn't felt that way a time or two?
If you want a cute, light read with sweet characters and a cheesy ending give this book a try.
I always enjoy reading Maddie James' stories. I think her characters ring true. It's like seeing your cousins after 10 years. You can just pick up a conversation like you saw them last week. It's automatically comfortable...like your favorite bathrobe. Check it out yourself.
Good story but again as other books of this author, too too many grammatical mistakes that take away from the story.
I just read Falling for Grace and I liked that book very much but I can't believe that the same author wrote this book. The beginning was a bit abrupt and I wondered if I'd missed a previous book but it does become a little clearer as we get further into the book. It was a light read with a sweet hea but it just wasn't fantastic.
